TRIO TURBULENCES

Baroque music trio

“expressing the passions of the soul”

Trio Turbulences was created in 2024 as part of a collaborative project with the Museum of Art and History of Geneva, aiming to strengthen the connection between music and painting at the dawn of the Baroque era. This collaboration resulted in an original concert performed in front of 16th- and 17th-century paintings that expressed the passions of the soul (affetti). Since then, historical performance and historical improvisation have been at the core of the ensemble’s artistic identity.

The combination of voice, lute, and cornet is deliberately minimalist, preserving the intimacy and expressive power of early Baroque texts. The ensemble’s original integration of improvisation on the cornet, paired with the lute’s continuo, allows the melodic instrument to alternate between melodic and continuo roles. Its vision is to reimagine the music of the 16th and 17th centuries through a deep engagement with historical practice, blurring the boundaries between historical composition, improvisation, and interpretation.

The ensemble presents concerts in which the passions flow seamlessly from one to another, structured in blocks of pieces that allow the audience to move from one emotion to the next without distractions.
