QUATUOR AMAPOLA
Saxophone quartet
BIO
Although no longer active, Quatuor Amapola brought together Jose Nisa, Ana Parejo, Valentin Arrayet and Jocelyn Erard, following their encounter with composer Peter Eötvös at the Haute École de Musique de Genève, where they worked on his quartet Lectures différentes. This experience inspired them to explore chamber music and expand the artistic possibilities of the ensemble.
Beyond the traditional saxophone quartet repertoire, Amapola explored Spanish Renaissance music and French and Spanish Baroque repertoire, combining a consort formation with soprano voice to bring a fresh and distinctive sound to this music.
The ensemble performed at numerous festivals and venues, including Ma Région Virtuose, the Swiss Chamber Music Festival, Paléo Festival, the Fête de la Musique in Geneva and Confignon, and the 30th anniversary of the Geneva Chamber Orchestra. Committed to making music accessible to all, Amapola also performed for residents of psychiatric hospitals and care homes in Annecy and Geneva.
The quartet worked with renowned musicians and composers including Noémie Bialobroda, Hans Egidi, Georges Aperghis, Joshua Hyde, Ties Mellema and Pierre-Stéphane Meugé at the Haute École de Musique de Genève, and was invited to the European Creative Academy in Annecy in summer 2022.
Despite its recent formation, Quatuor Amapola received an award at the prestigious ORPHEUS Swiss Chamber Music Competition in 2022.
